From September 5 to 10, get away to Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest and friendliest province. Meet wonderful women from across the country as you immerse yourself in a week of fitness and rejuvenation.

Fitness and yoga pros, Barb Gormley and Nina LePage, welcome you to share 6 days of fresh-air fitness, fun and adventure. We love holding our activities outdoors—on the beach or on the lush lawn under swaying trees.

Stretch, stride, cycle, laugh, learn, and recharge—it’s time for some serious fun!

Travelling solo? We will gladly pair you with another solo retreat guest.

At a Glance

  • 5 nights in a cozy modern cottage

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • daily yoga (novice through intermediate level)

  • small-group cycling on the oceanside trail throughout the retreat

  • ocean swimming/wading (hopefully with some aquafit, if the ocean cooperates!)

  • optional “learn to row” lesson on calm Brackley Bay & an outing to a local ceilidh.

A TYPICAL DAY

Morning

7:30 sunrise beach stroll, beachcombing, or ocean swim

9:00 breakfast

10:30 Nordic walk

Afternoon

12:30 lunch or picnic

2:30 yoga

4:00 cycle, beach activity or restorative yoga

Evening

6:00 dinner

7:30 bonfire, lantern walk, fun & games, local ceilidh, etc.

Shaw’s Hotel and Cottages is a true gem, uniquely positioned in the centre of prisitine Prince Edward Island National Park.

Cottage 16. Brackley Bay view to the south, the Atlantic 5-minute walk to the north.

It offers walking access to the island's iconic red sand beaches, its breathtaking UNESCO-protected dunes, and an array of scenic trails ideal for Nordic walking and cycling.

We stay in lovely cottages, which create an instant feeling of home and offer breathtaking views in all directions. While simple in design, the cottages are impeccably clean, well maintained and comfortably modern.

PRICING

  1. Double Room with shared or private bathroom (9 rooms/18 beds available): A spacious room with two beds (queen or single) with a large bathroom, kitchen & living room with a deck overlooking Brackley Bay. Coming solo? We will gladly pair you with another solo retreat guest.

  2. Single Room with shared or private bathroom (only 10 available): A spacious private room with a queen bed, large bathroom, kitchen & living room with a deck overlooking Brackley Bay.

    Before June 1: $3,130 ($3,599 including HST)
    After June 1::$3,390 ($3,899 including HST)

MEALS

Shaw’s provides all of our delicious meals & is adept at managing food allergies, sensitivities, & plant-based diets. (There’s plenty for seafood lovers to enjoy.)

PRICE INCLUDES

  • 6 days/5 nights cottage at Shaw’s Hotel

  • 5 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 5 dinners (including a lobster supper); all fitness activities; loan of Nordic walking poles, yoga mats & bicycles (water bottle & helmet)

  • This retreat is ideal for you if you …

    • are age 50 to 70ish

    • are in good health

    • have an easy-going and flexible approach to life

    • are a regular exerciser and have good stamina

    • know how to Nordic walk, practise yoga or are keen to learn

    • are able to Nordic walk/walk continuously and at a moderate pace for at least one hour

    • are comfortable cycling at a moderate pace on a car-free trail for a total of one hour or two hours (if you plan on cycling at this retreat)

    • love the outdoors

    • love meeting new people and making new friends

    • enjoy a wide variety of foods (though the chef can easily address vegetarian diets, food allergies and food sensitivities)

    • are comfortable sharing a lovely cottage with others in either a single or double bedroom (your choice)

  • Barb Gormley is a master trainer for Urban Poling Inc., a personal trainer , group exercise instructor. and 200-hour yoga teacher. She is the author of “The Urban Poling Ultimate Guide to Nordic Walking,” & “The Urban Poling Ultimate Guide to Nordic Walking For Instructors.”

    Nina LePage is a longtime personal trainer, a group exercise instructor, & master trainer for Urban Poling Inc. She is a Hatha Yoga teacher, holistic nutrition educator & Heart Wise fitness instructor. She teaches on Zoom, at local community centres, senior centres & at Ottawa’s Rideau Sports Club.

  • Most retreats that we know of focus solely on yoga; focus on relaxing; offer a large amount of free time; offer just two or perhaps three organized sessions/yoga classes per day.

    Some retreats require participants to contact the hotel to organize their own accommodation and meals.

    Our goal is more about energizing than relaxing. We offer a full day of activities! Sessions of course aren’t mandatory, but we find people rarely skip a session (well maybe the extra-early morning swim in the Atlantic!…though many come to walk and enjoy the beach instead).


    We don’t jampack the schedule or rush from activity to activity. But we want you to be outdoors as much as possible, to learn new skills and information, to meet local people, make new friends, and get a good feel for the province of PEI.

    We also organize and include all your accommodation and meals (except one lunch).

  • Simply grab a taxi at the airport for the quick and picturesque 20-minute ride.

  • No, these are all supplied for you.

  • About 50/50. Each year’s group has been super friendly, and we have all gone home with new friends.

  • 55ish to 70ish. We typically have a small handful of participants over 70, and they tend to be fitter than than the average 70+ woman.

  • A variety of casual clothes for all types of early fall weather. We’ll send packing suggestions closer to the event.
